The New Balance 580 “Kombu Green” is Winter’s Best Sneaker

The 580 Kombu Green definitley fall into the category of “cool dad sneakers” (image: New Balance).

When it comes to wearing sneakers in the winter, it’s always hard to find a pair that look great, feel super-comfy, and hold up to inclement weather. That’s why we tend to err on the side of a good pair of work boots, but they’re rarely as comfortable as sneakers. On the flip side, it doesn’t matter how great your sneakers look if your feet are cold and wet. But you also don’t want to wear protective sneakers that look out of place when you’re walking around town. That’s why we’re pretty pumped about these. We may just have found winter’s perfect sneaker in the New Balance 580 in Kombu Green.

First of all, the military green, black, grey, and tan colorway is just right for the colder and significantly dirtier months, but the single-most important feature of the NB 580s is the GORE-TEX waterproof fabric underneath that keeps the nasty stuff (rain, slush, snow, water, and yes, even wind) away from your tender dogs without sacrificing breathability. That means reducing foot odor and stank, not that you have any. We love the color and style that should work well with jeans, khakis, cargo pants, anything shy of dress pants, really.

Other great features of the 580 Kombus include:

  • A slimmer profile for style versatility

  • C-CAP midsole technology provides support and durability

  • ROLLBAR stability post system prevents rear-foot movement and adds stability

  • ABZORB midsole balances cushioning and compression resistance

  • A high-traction Vibram rubber outsole
